Windsurfing in Cabarete can be world class
with windsurfing conditions that will appeal to every level of wind surfer from
beginner to professional competitor. With light breezes in the morning the reef
protected bays are great for beginners to windsurfing, slalom and wave sailors
generally have more fun in the afternoon, around 1-2pm the side shore wind kicks
in to 15-25 knots. The trade winds are most reliable from January or February
and continue right through until August. Cabarete can have a mini wet period
pretty much any time as it is affected by many weather systems, a very cold
Miami can bring alot of rain! Usually September to November are a little less
windy with one of the wettest months being October. If you are looking
for full on windsurfing in Cabarete then from late spring through summer peaking
in June should be the time to go although cheap accommodation can be hardy to
find as Cabarete race week is in June ! If you are sailing from Windsurf beach
in Cabarete watch out for the large wind gap in the middle of the bay given
a gusty and at times tricky 50 metres, it seems a little worse towards the bic
centre end of the beach however dont let that put you off as the staff and service
at bic our great
The Reef is about 500 metres from the beach giving flat water cruising close
to shore with small waves on the outer reef( the waves our bigger between December
an April )It is a perfect spot to start some wave sailing and times can test
the most experienced wave sailors and make for great windsurfing. At low tides
the reef can come very close to the surface so watch your fins!
